Inspired by my buddy :icondualmask:'s Top Ten Video Game Meme that he did I decided to take a crack at this one myself. I haven't done too many of these memes that have been floating around but this one looked like a whole bunch of fun! :excited:

It was rather difficult to try and whittle my list down to my absolute favorite 10 games of all time...I've been playing video games since 1985-1986 and have played on Calecovisions, several of the models of Ataris (2600, 5200, and the 7800), the first console I ever owned was a Sega MASTER System (no kiddies, not the Genesis...though I would later get one of those), NES, Super Nintendo, Turbografx 16, Sega Genesis, and many other consoles up to the XBox 360 which is the only Next-Gen Console that I own at the moment. I remember the days where Arcades were the most popular spots in malls as kids, teens, and young adults would stand around in awe as they watched and waited their turn to take a shot at the newest game on the scene. Hell, I'm old enough to remember the days where grocery stores would have coin-op video games inside the store for kids to play as their parents shopped...at the tender age of 8 years old, I fell in love with a girl named Chun-Li for the first time back in 1989 in a Food Lion grocery store. I've been gaming for quite a long time, and though I've kinda gotten away from it in the past few years, I've still got much love for video games. After careful thought and consideration, I've slimmed it down to these ten games which I hold nearest and dear to my heart! Without any further ado...here's my top 10!

1.)Street Fighter Alpha 3: Out of all of the games on this list, I think I can say in all confidence that SFA3 just may very well be my favorite game of all time. I've always loved the Street Fighter series as a whole, even though they had 6 different versions of SFII before they actually released a true sequel and even still took another almost 10 years to release a fourth game. However, I still love the series with all of my heart along with my favorite iconic characters such as Chunners, Cammy, Ryu, Sagat, and the coolest end boss of all time...M. BISON!!! :evillaugh:

SFA3 is, IMO, the culmination of all of the SF games up to that point...it has damn near every character that's been in a SF game, plus you have your choice of choosing whatever style you're most accustomed to with the -isms. I love the soundtrack and the graphics are great for it to be a 2D fighter. The replay appeal is great and after many years I could still pop it into my PS2 and have a ball!

2.)Timesplitters 2: One of the most fun under the radar games that you've never played. I've always enjoyed first person shooters since Wolfenstein and Doom, then Goldeneye would come and break the mold in the way of the FPS, becoming a legendary game in the process and being a great reason to get 3 extra controllers and getting your buddies together to play some N64!

Timesplitters took the same exact engine that Goldeneye used as well as many of the same weapons, and instead of rendered realistic looking characters from the James Bond flicks they're replaced by an exhaustive cast of characters ranging from really cool badass guys and gals to the downright bizarre to the absolutely hilarious (the developers had some sort of obsession with monkeys). Honestly, there's not much of a story to the game, but it's so much fun that it doesn't matter. There are plenty of stages, challenges, and side games to play to keep you occupied, and of course there's stuff like good ol' deathmatches, team deathmatches, and capture the flag. The only bad thing about this game is that you can't jump. Other than that, it's definitely up there as one of my all time favs! :XD:

3.)Contra: Stand up and pat yourself on the back if you know the significance of "Up Up Down Down Left Right Left Right B A B A (Select if two players) Start". However, true Contra pros could play the whole game through and didn't need no stinkin' 30 men to beat the game...we could do it with the normal 3; or if you were good like me, you could beat the whole game without dying at all! :threaten:

As simple as Contra's concept was...run, flip, and shoot everything in sight as you wear your cool Blue or Red pants :giggle:...that game was so much fun and is a true classic. Though I can't help but wonder just how hard would it actually be to do repeated somersaults with a large automatic weapon that shoots spread shots. :hmm:

4.)Tekken Tag Tournament: If you haven't noticed, fighting games are my favorite genre of video games. Tekken definitely burnt a hole in my heart very early in the game...as the 2D fighting craze rose to a fever pitch with games like Mortal Kombat 2 and Super Street Fighter Turbo, 3D would be the wave of the future with games like Virtua Fighter, Killer Instinct, and Tekken. Although Virtua Fighter was the first to rise to prominence in the way of the 3D fighter, it lacked something to me...like soul. Virtua Fighter was, and still is, way too technical for a fighter. Sure, I appreciate all of the technicality that was put into the VF series, but Tekken was instantly fun and majorly enjoyable without having to memorize a canned chain combo with unfairly unbalanced characters. Tekken quickly made me pump my quarters into its coin-op machine rather than playing SSF Turbo, MK2, or Killer Instinct again. Once again, cool fighting as well as cool characters made this one a hit with me.

Tekken Tag Tournament wasn't canon to the actual Tekken series, but the fact that it had every character as a selectable character up to that point as well as the tag system was a nice little treat for Tekken fans as it somewhat took a break from the crazy shenanigans of the Mishima/Kazama family and how they're always trying to kill one another. It was just plenty of fun and the music was some of the best in the whole series! 8-)

5.)WWF No Mercy: For those of you that have known me here on DA for quite some time, you know that I'm an avid fan of pro wrestling and wrestling video games. I've been a wrestling fan for about as long as I've been playing video games, so it's only natural that I enjoy the games too...not to mention that most of my main characters were first created on the Create a Wrestler feature on those various games. There have been many wrestling games to come out over the years but No Mercy is to this day my favorite of them all.

If you were to look at it now, the graphics are horribly blocky and polygon-filled as well as the actual gameplay is turtle slow. HOWEVER, the grappling engine is the best of any wrestling game that I've ever played, the move list is exhaustive as the developers really did their homework in implementing moves and holds from Japanese and Mexican Lucha Libre that you won't see on WWE or TNA television. The Create A Wrestler wasn't the deepest, but you still had access to many parts, clothing, and body types to create the perfect Raina Hunter or an awesome Angie Santana. The storylines were pretty good and there was no gender limit as to what types of matches you could put your female wrestlers in! There have been a few Smackdown vs. Raw games that were good, but none have quite etched their mark as No Mercy has in my heart.

6.)Grand Theft Auto 3: Not the first game in the GTA series, but this game innovated the whole Sandbox aspect of gaming...you don't wanna do the missions? Cool, go on a rampage as you run over pedestrians, open fire into a crowd of people, pick up a hooker and take her in an alley for some car bouncing action :hump:, or do what you like as you raise your wanted level to a whopping 6 stars as super fast FBI cars, helicopters, and tanks chase you trying to take you out by any means necessary! :XD:

GTA3 is one of the most clever, hilarious games that I've ever played. The story was really tight, the gameplay was new and refreshing, and the sheer fact that you had a whole 3 island city to play in is just amazing. I remember that I couldn't wait to get home from classes while I was in college to play some more GTA3...I haven't felt that way about a game since! (Close with Saints Row 2) So what the character didn't have a name nor talked like CJ, Tommy, Niko, Tony, or any of the other GTA protagonists, but it added mystique to his character. I think that later games complicated things in the way of having to take your friends/girlfriends out on dates to play pool or go to the gym to keep from getting fat, but GTA3 was simply complex in it's brilliance.

7.)Mortal Kombat 2: MOOOOOOOORRRRRRRTTTTTTAAAAAALLLL KOOOOOOMMMBAAAAATTTT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Aw man...I can't tell you how many hours I put into that game between hanging at the arcade EVERY SINGLE WEEKEND and often everyday after school...I studied and memorized fatalities, animalities, babalities, and friendships more than I did my actual school studies! :XD: I went stupid on Mortal Thursday when it finally came out on home consoles...I got it for the Super Nintendo and remember waking up at 4 in the morning to play it for an hour that night with the sound turned off so I didn't wake up my dad!

I loved the first MK game and I damn near pissed myself when I came to the arcade and saw the MKII coin-op standing there in all of it's gory bloody glory! That game was too much fun to play and there was no better feeling than to play someone, beat them, then finish them with a brutal fatality in front of a crowd of onlookers! :XD: Even cooler that they kept the blood and gore for the home version of MKII...I don't think I could've done another tame ass MK that replaced the blood with sweat and toned down the fatalities!

8.)Deathrow: Here is the coolest game that you have probably never heard of. Imagine a game that combines elements of Ultimate Frisbee, Football, Hockey, and Fighting all into one sport...this is the beauty that is Deathrow! The rules are simple...the team with the most points at the end of 3 quarters win, unless all competitors are rendered KO'ed before then. For those of you that actually read my stories, I got a lot of the ideas of Blitzball (the sport that Nikki Vetter used to play) from this game.

There were several themed teams that you could choose from: there were a team of cops, skaters, ninjas, marines, convicts, robots, demons, cyborgs, wasteland warriors, and my personal favorite...a team of amphibious women that could breathe underwater without the use of scuba gear that also talked shit to you in a Russian accent that called themselves the Sea Cats! (No, I'm not kidding) This game was very fun and fast paced with the action...best of all, is that you could play your own soundtrack from the music that you may have loaded to your Xbox!

9.)Def Jam Vendetta: Fight For NY: Remember what I said above about WWF No Mercy? Well, take the same developers (Aki for those of you keeping score), keep the same grappling system, ease up on the wrestling a little bit and add more intricate striking and submission moves/techniques, and instead of your favorite wrestlers from the World Wrestling Federation/Entertainment replace them with your favorite Hip Hoppers, Rappers, and actors such as Snoop Dogg, Method Man, Redman, Busta Rhymes, Carmen Electra, and....Danny Trejo!!! (Wait...what?!!!? The guy that played Machete?) You don't have to be a fan of Hip Hop to enjoy this one...the action and graphics in this game were just brutal!

Even cooler, is that there's a create a fighter (unfortunately, you can't create female fighters, but there's one gal on the game that reminds me a lot of Sapphira)...how you create your character is very important, as the better you look and the more "bling" (God, I can't stand that word) that you deck your fighter out in, the more charisma and points you get in your matches. I created myself and make my character into a cool breakdancing B-Boy that is adapt in a hybrid style of Wrestling, Street Fighting, and Martial Arts...my dude's a badass! :threaten: This game is right up my alley, as it combines my love of Hip Hop with my love of fighting/wrestling games! I almost wish that rappers like Souljah Boi Tell 'Em, Wacka Flocka Flame, and all of those other wack rappers that are popular now were on there so I could take my character and whoop the shit out of them for being horrible rappers!

10.)Streets Of Rage 2: I've always loved the SoR series...the moves were simple and the gameplay was rather repetitive, but nonetheless it was a blast walking around beating the hell out of a bunch of no-named characters who all wore the same exact outfits! :giggle: SoR 2 was the coolest in the series to me; it added the special moves as well as had the coolest background music for a video game...as I was telling =Dualmask I would turn on the BGM sound test on the game as I would do my homework!

SoR was the definitive side scrolling beat 'em up...I thought that they were gonna run far with the torch that was passed to them from the Double Dragon games, yet the side scrolling beat 'em fell to the wayside. I don't think there's any other game that I would love to see a remake for over Streets of Rage!
